Trust and Obey

Hello 1nebody,

I pray that the love of God will find expression in tangible ways in your lives this week, in Jesus name, Amen.

I don’t know if, like me, a song came to mind when you read Monday’s meditation. For me, the age-long hymn, Trust and Obey, dropped in my heart while I was re-reading the write-up. I know a lot of people know this hymn but for those who don’t, even those who do, I encourage you to listen and soak in the song’s message. I believe it embodies the message from Monday’s meditation.

According to my research, the hymn was written by Minister John H. Sammis and composed by Daniel B. Towner in the 1800s. It was first published in 1887 and would go on to become globally acclaimed. I am glad I researched the song’s history because what I found is a message in itself. The hymn’s origins can be traced back to a testimony meeting held likely in 1886, when a young man said, “I am not quite sure—but I am going to trust, and I am going to obey.” It is a reminder of the difference our testimonies could make in the Kingdom of God and people’s lives. This man who just thought to share what the Holy Spirit had laid on his heart didn’t know the extent his testimony would reach. His goal was not to inspire a song, he just wanted to talk about God’s faithfulness to others.

This is encouraging for me and I hope for someone out there, you never know what impact the small contributions you make at your church, bible study, fellowship, and any gathering, large or small, could make. I also know that trusting and obeying God is not as easy as it sounds, it is not a walk in the park. It is a sacrifice, and it is hard. To trust and obey Him regardless. After all is said and done, it is like the song says, there is really no other way but to keep our dreams and hopes in God.

When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word
What a glory He sheds on our way!
While we do His good will, He abides with us still
And with all who will trust and obey

Trust and obey, for there's no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey

God bless,

Dasola
