Hello 1nebody,

Can you believe we are almost at the end of the first Ember month in 2024?! We can officially start counting down to Christmas in a few days 😊. God has been faithful! God is good!

I feel like I have reviewed this song before but it is speaking to me presently and in line with what we discussed on Monday. The song titled People is by Jonathan McReynolds. It is from his 2020 album with the same title. The song describes people, humans at the core of their nature; imperfect. The singer was praying to God to deliver him from people, listing out bad traits and experiences that give reasoning to this kind of prayer.

I don’t know if it is just me but it does sound like a weird thing to pray about. However, the underlying message of this song is a prayer of grace to love our neighbours as ourselves. This simple instruction sounds doable until you meet people who make loving them and others difficult. It is then this starts to sound unrealistic. This is what the song is describing, painting a perfect picture of how it is almost impossible to co-exist with people. The good news is God knows this struggle and He is able to love mankind regardless. We can tap into that grace, we can’t do it in our strength.

The best part of the song for me is at the end, after praying to be delivered from people and listing all the traits like self-righteousness, lying, hating, the list goes on, it ended with the singer humbly asking for God’s forgiveness if he is one of those people. It is easy to point fingers, to pass the blame but at our core, we are imperfect. We all need the grace of God to relate with each other in love and His forgiveness when we fall short. It is a really lovely song and thought-provoking, it helps you to take an inward look and ask God for help where you need it.

God bless,

Dasola
