It wasn’t just about public opinion anymore — it was about personal revelation. Jesus wasn’t looking for what they’d heard; He wanted to know what they had personally discovered about Him after walking with Him, watching Him, and listening to Him.

Thank God for Peter. He caught it. He said in verse 16:

“You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

And Jesus’ response in verse 17 was powerful: “Flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.”

That got me thinking. What revelation of Christ do I have? Do I just see Him through what the world projects — what people say about Him — or do I have a personal revelation of Christ that flows from intimacy, time spent, and my own relationship with Him?

The conversation didn’t stop there. Jesus went further and revealed something about Peter’s identity:

“And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.” (verse 18)

Here’s the beauty of it: in the place of revelation — when we see Christ clearly — who we truly are also gets revealed.

So today, let me leave you with this thought: What revelation of Christ are you living by? Because the deeper you know Him, the clearer you’ll see yourself.

However, this journey of knowing Jesus begins with having Him as your Lord.
