Hello Amazing Reader,
Trust you are well and having a wonderful November.
Over the weekend, the 1nebody book club met for our bi-monthly sessions. One of the messages we reviewed touched on thanking God for “small” blessings and it resonated with me so deeply that I thought to share some of the lessons with you.
The preacher, Bishop David Abioye emphasized on the importance of appreciating God for “small” blessings. Referencing the story of the ten lepers in Luke 17:11-19, where Jesus had instructed them to go show themselves to the priest, and as they went they were cleansed.
11 Now on his way to Jerusalem, Jesus traveled along the border between Samaria and Galilee. 12 As he was going into a village, ten men who had leprosy[a] met him. They stood at a distance 13 and called out in a loud voice, “Jesus, Master, have pity on us!” 14 When he saw them, he said, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were cleansed.
15 One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice. 16 He threw himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him—and he was a Samaritan.
17 Jesus asked, “Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? 18 Has no one returned to give praise to God except this foreigner?” 19 Then he said to him, “Rise and go; your faith has made you well.”
Perhaps, that cleansing seemed like a small blessing, compared to what they were expecting. The one who returned realized that it may be small, but it is an improvement over my former situation. And he quickly returned to give God thanks. Because of that, Jesus said, “Rise and go; your faith has made you well.”
Bishop Abioye remarked that if all the ten had been immediately made well, maybe they would have all returned to give God thanks. He said the same applies to us, when we receive what we perceive as “big” blessings, we don’t need any encouragement to give God praise. But, it is wisdom to give thanks to God for the “small” blessings.
What are some of these small blessings, you may be asking.
- Sleeping and waking up
- Ability to move your body and it responds
- Ability to eat when you want and it digests without any medical support
- Going out and returning safely
- Shelter
- Clothing…etc
The list is endless. There are so many “small” blessings we gloss over and I hope this causes us to repent and begin to intentionally appreciate God for these blessings. Especially with the year coming to an end, there’s a tendency to think God has done nothing because your major prayer requests seem to be pending. I encourage you to take some time to reflect, you’d see the many ways God has been working in your life.
If you haven’t consciously asked Jesus into your life, today is a good day to do so. Please say this prayer:
Dear Jesus, I accept you today as my Lord and personal Saviour. I confess that I have sinned; please forgive me. I believe that you died and rose again for me. By your blood, cleanse me from every unrighteousness. Thank you for the new life you have given me, help me to serve you all the days of my life. Ultimately, please help me make it to eternity with you, in Jesus' name. Amen.
Congratulations, heaven rejoices over you!
If you said this prayer and would like additional information/guidance, please send an email to 1nebodyblog@gmail.com.
As you go on this week, choose to be grateful, even for the “small” blessings.
God’s blessings always,
Dammy
