Dear Reader,

Welcome to the last day of March, we pray for a glorious April for you and your loved ones in Jesus name, Amen.

The song on review today, People, is an unusual one but it is one of my best songs of all time. It is from Jonathan McReynolds’ last album with the same title. I say it is unusual because I remember when it was just released, I wasn’t sure what to expect. What kind of a Christian song is titled, people? What would the song be about, how people praise God? Those are some of the questions I asked myself. However, after I listened to it, God, was I blessed!

At the start of the song, you hear people chatting, passing comments, judging, complaining, and all sorts. The first part of the song describes people in opposites, they can be loving and hateful, the best or worst thing that can happen to anyone, as well as attack you alone or gang up against you. Which perfectly reflects the world in which we live today where people don’t need to influence your life in person anymore. A lot of people hide behind the screens passing hateful comments and basically screening your life if you let them. And that is where the song went eventually in the chorus, praying to God to deliver him from people. It is the kind of song that gets you nodding to the very deep, relatable words that hit home in a liberating way.

Then at the end of the song, the artiste listed out the different types of people he is praying to God for wisdom to engage with. But, the most powerful part was when he goes “forgive me when I am one of those people.” It is so easy to judge but that part of the lyrics is a reminder that we ourselves are not perfect and must continue to strive towards godliness and christ-like behaviours (Eph 4:2 and 32).

Jonathan is an exceptional and unconventional songwriter (my opinion), so, I was not at all surprised. His songs are usually powerful prayer points that are relatable yet unexpected. I relate to this song on a very strong level because I believe dealing with people has to be one of the most challenging task ever. People make up situations and experiences, so, if you have ever had a good or a bad experience, it is your interaction with the people in those situations that has caused whatever outcome you got. They can bring you up (1 Thes 5:11) or down if you let them, so we need the grace of God in our interactions with people, that is why I think this song is exceptional.

Listen to the song, soak it in, it is truly one of a kind.

Have a blessed evening,

Dasola
