Let’s Go Back to the Basics – Love

Hello 1nebody,

It is so good to be back. Happy New Month!

Can you believe it? We are already in the last month of the first half of 2026; God has been faithful! My prayer is that as we conclude this first half of the year, we will never have a better yesterday. May we continue to enjoy abundant increase; today will be better than yesterday, and tomorrow will be better than today,in Jesus name, Amen!

For some time now, a recurring theme I have noticed in this season has centered on loving God and living beyond ‘self.’ We have heard it time and again that God’s plan for us goes beyond meeting our worldly desires. He wants to have a relationship with us. Jesus answered one of the disciples in Matthew 22:37-40 (NIV), who asked which was the greatest commandment in the law.

“Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.””

God expects nothing from us but to love Him. When you truly love God, all the other things come easy- the second greatest and remaining commandments. When you love God, you will love everything He created. The narrative has never changed. Since the days of Abraham, Moses, David and the prophets, God’s heart for us has always been obedience to His Word. And as Jesus said in the above verse, all the laws hang on those two commandments centered on love.

Like Phineas, in Numbers 25:10-11, who God said to Moses was ‘zealous for His honour’ because of his action, you will take the mockery of God’s name seriously when you love God. You won’t take it lightly when wicked people cause others pain like they are doing in Nigeria and some other parts of the world. You won’t wait until it happens close to home before you intercede. Judge these wicked people with the authority you have in Christ and ask God to intervene for the poor children and teachers who are oppressed.

If you love the Lord, when He lays a thing in your heart to do, you will take it seriously and do it with everything you’ve got. If the president of your nation gave you a task, wouldn’t you place value on it, prioritise it and give it your best? That’s someone you don’t even love. Why then do we disregard or deal with levity what God instructs us to do, yet we claim to love Him? Because He is a merciful God?

These are areas I personally have failed in and must change. And the way to ensure this change is simply to allow more of God into our lives. Spending more time with Him, giving Him the room and liberty to really do His work in us until we become like Christ. 1 John 4:7-8 makes it abundantly clear what we must do: know God and be born of God.

“Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.”

If you haven’t allowed God into your heart, the truth is, it will be harder for you to love the Lord, yourself and others. I invite you to take that step of faith today and let the Lord into your heart. Start this journey of total surrender to allow God work in you and make you the person He purposed for you to be. When you are ready, please read the prayer below out loud:

Dear Jesus, I accept you today as my Lord and personal Saviour. I confess that I have sinned; please forgive me. I believe that you died and rose again for me. By your blood, cleanse me from every unrighteousness. Thank you for the new life you have given me, help me to serve you all the days of my life. Ultimately, please help me make it to eternity with you, in Jesus' name. Amen.

Congratulations, heaven rejoices over you! If you said this prayer and would like additional information/guidance, please send an email to 1nebodyblog@gmail.com.

God bless,

Dasola
