We are almost at the end of another week. Thank God for another successful week.
“The gospel of the kingdom rises on the wheels of prosperity.” Bishop Oyedepo made this powerful statement during a Sunday sermon, anchoring it on Haggai 2:8:
“The silver is mine and the gold is mine,’ declares the Lord Almighty.”
Most people believe wealth shouldn’t be desirable for believers. I don’t know why people think that, but probably because the Bible says the love of money is the root of all evil, 1 Timothy 6:10.
However, Bishop gave a Biblical and valid reason why believers need wealth. The topic of wealth needs to be met with the question, what is God’s purpose for financial fortune?
Using Exodus 11:2-3 and 35:4-9, Bishop Oyedepo made it clear that God’s purpose for wealth is to build His kingdom. God blesses us primarily to get wealth so that we can build His kingdom on earth.
“Tell the people that men and women alike are to ask their neighbors for articles of silver and gold.” (The Lord made the Egyptians favorably disposed toward the people, and Moses himself was highly regarded in Egypt by Pharaoh’s officials and by the people.)”
“Moses said to the whole Israelite community, “ This is what the Lord has commanded: From what you have, take an offering for the Lord. Everyone who is willing is to bring to the Lord an offering of gold, silver and bronze;”
From the scripture above, God gave the wealth of Egypt to the Israelites so they could use it in building the tabernacle.
Bishop went further to explain that the Bible recognizes two types of wealth: true and false riches. True riches are the empowerment for wealth under God’s covenant, while false riches are gotten by vanity.
So, if wealth is our heritage in redemption, how do we ensure the delivery of this wealth? Bishop Oyedepo shared three covenant requirements for accessing God’s financial fortune:
1. Tithing
2. Kingdom promotion sacrifices
3. Giving to parents
Bishop also touched on tithing briefly, and he shared something his grandmother always said “tithe is God’s portion that makes the remainder meaningful.”
