Happy New Month! Welcome to August, your month of unusual testimonies! May your home be loaded with joy and rejoicing this month in Jesus name, Amen.

Do you love hosting people? Do you have friends, family, or colleagues you want to win over to Christ? Would you like to be more active in evangelising? The Alpha Course is for you.

What is the Alpha course?

Through a series of weekly talks and discussions, the Alpha course is an evangelistic platform that seeks to introduce the basics of the Christian faith to non-believers. It is described as “an opportunity to explore the meaning of life”. Alpha originated in 1977 by Charles Marnham at a church called Holy Trinity Brompton in London, and today, Alpha courses are run in churches, homes, workplaces, prisons, universities, virtually and many more locations.

My team in church is currently hosting the course for the community and that was how I learned about it. Although the organisers say the course is targeted at non-believers, I think believers alike would find this course helpful in their faith. We are currently three weeks into the course and I am grateful to God that I am involved. It has been such a wonderful learning and faith-boosting experience.

Alpha is organised as a series of sessions over 9 – 11 weeks, including a day or weekend away. The sessions run weekly and, traditionally, each session starts with a meal, followed by a talk and then a discussion in small groups. The talks aim to cover the basic beliefs of the Christian faith. However, in April 2016, Alpha introduced the Alpha Film Series, which I’m involved with in my church. This is where the traditional Alpha content is shown in a series of films, featuring stories and interviews. The Alpha Film Series now form the basis of the weekly discussions. Anyone can run the Alpha course virtually or in person, and you can register for free to download all the videos and materials.

You can learn more about the course and how to get involved here.

God bless,
