Hello Amazing Reader,

Can I still wish you a happy new month? Since we’re only a few days in, I believe it’s still perfectly in order 😊.

How’s November coming along for you? I pray God’s goodness and mercies surround you throughout this month, and beyond, in Jesus name.

Today, we’re reviewing a recently released Nigerian gospel movie- Black Collar, directed by Ayobami Adegboyega.

First, this movie is excellent! The story line, acting, cinematography…every aspect of it has a 10/10 for me.

What stood out to me the most was how realistic and relatable the script felt. Sadly, we’ve seen stories of pastors, church leaders, and believers who once walked faithfully with God but lost their way in pursuit of fame, wealth, or influence.

That’s exactly what happens to Pastor Francis, the lead character. He once served under his spiritual father until pride got a hold of him. He walked out on his spiritual leader and decided to start his own church. His desire to be branded as the pastor with the largest church auditorium in his city got him into shady practices not expected of a believer, much more, a pastor.

Eventually, everything crumbled. His wife was on the verge of leaving the marriage as well, but for the mercy of God. She became the channel for his restoration to God.

We also see Pastor Isaac Oyedepo and his wife, Ayomitide, make a beautiful on-screen debut together. It was refreshing to see their ministry extend into gospel films.

Here are my key takeaways:

  • Consistently pray for your spiritual leaders
  • Secrecy should not thrive in Christian homes

We watched Black Collar on the 1nebody book club and got to review it as a community.

I’m especially excited to see this boom in Nigeria’s gospel movie industry. It was my first time watching a production by Ayobami Adegboyega, and it won’t be my last.

God bless the production team with greater wisdom and inspiration, in Jesus name. If you haven’t watched this movie, hurry over to Ayobami’s Youtube channel to do so.

God’s blessings always,

Dammy
