It’s a brand new week…yaaayyy..Trust you had a splendid weekend. Thank God for life and the blessings of a new week. What’s God saying to us this week?

Our reading is taken from Luke 1:5-38.

Let’s replay this. Aunty Lizzy and Uncle Zech got married most likely when they were youngies and for so long the union had no children. The Bible has no record of how long the wait was but it must have been a long one because they both were now well advanced in age. Oh, how can we not state that Uncle Zech was also a priest. Let’s be more appropriate and refer to him as Reverend Zechariah. Not just himself now, he actually belonged to a priestly clan. Aunty Lizzy too was from the house of Aaron (a priest). The Bible also states that they were both righteous and observed all the Lord’s commands blamelessly. So this wasn’t a question of either or both being sinners and this situation was a result of their sin.

One of those days when Reverend Zechariah was on duty at the temple, Angel Gabriel appeared to him with the news of his wife bearing a child. He couldn’t believe it. It didn’t even make sense. He had waited so long for this to happen but it wasn’t coming. Angel Gabby didn’t want him to pollute the seed of God’s word, so he was made dumb for a season.

Upon completion of his temple duty, he returns home and afterwards Aunty Lizzy gets pregnant. The same Angel Gabby appears to Sister Mary six months later with cheering news. He tells her she has found favour in the eyes of the Lord and would give birth to Jesus, the savior of the world (not our focus today). Angel Gabby also tells her about her relative, Aunty Lizzy. Luke 1:36  (NIV) says, “Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be unable to conceive is in her sixth month. For no word from God will ever fail”. KJV puts it as, ‘For nothing is impossible with God.’

  Luke 1 37      Luke 1 37 kjv

Imagine, it was even a closed case already. People had written them off and said to Aunty Lizzy that she would never be able to conceive. They had been to several gynecologists-home and abroad. Ran series of tests. There was nothing medically wrong with either of them but the children still wouldn’t come.

When all hope seemed lost. The angel of the Lord suddenly visited and the tide turned. The wait was over. Aunty Lizzy was pregnant with Baby John the Baptist who to redeem God’s people. It happened because no word from God will ever fail!

Oh and how can we not highlight the importance of serving God. Remember, Angel Gabby visited while Rev Zech was serving at the temple. In what way are you serving God in your local assembly?  Your finances, time, energy, talent, etc can be expended in His service. Why not keep serving while waiting. Keep at it knowing full well that none of God’s word to you will ever fail!!

 Be at peace dear one.

Love,

Dammy
