The average human mind is more susceptible to remember negative happenings than it is to remember and celebrate positive ones.

I once heard the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor E.A Adeboye paint a scenario of two individuals; let’s refer to them as Mr Y and Mr Z.          Mr Y was seen weeping profusely, when asked what the matter was he told the concerned parties that he remembered a negative incident that took place on the same date several years ago. The concerned parties sympathized with him and encouraged him to cheer up.

Mr Z was also seen crying and when he was asked, he said he remembered how God delivered him on that date several years ago. The concerned parties then said, ‘is that why you are still crying.’  ‘I am reminded of the faithfulness of God. Moreover, these are tears of joy.’ Instead of joining him in thanksgiving to God, they all walked away.

Isn’t this what happens to most of us? We rather be reminded of a negative incident to cry over than remember and celebrate God’s faithfulness to us. We forget that even when we were undeserving, God chose to bless us because He is faithful. Joel 2:23 says, ‘ Be glad, people of Zion, rejoice in the Lord your God, for he has given you the autumn rains because he is faithful…(New International Version). His faithfulness to us doesn’t count on whether or not we have been righteous enough to earn the blessings.

When next the devil attempts to remind you of certain things God has not done, choose to be deliberately reminded of God’s faithfulness to you in the past. You would see that His antecedents have been credible and He is sure to show up again because His faithfulness tank isn’t running low anyway.
