Hello Amazing Reader,
Welcome to a beautiful, new week; one in which you will experience God’s goodness like never before, in Jesus name.
Over the weekend, my family and I watched Stranded 3, a movie by the Redeemed Christian Church of God (The King’s Palace Drama) and Mount Zion Film Productions.
The theme of the movie was forgiveness; two families in the movie were going through a season of separation caused by their unforgiving spouses. Although the hurts were legitimate, the movie emphasizes the need to forgive because that’s the only way we can also receive forgiveness from God.
“For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
Matthew 6:14-15 (NKJV)
Have you been hurt so much that you don’t think you can forgive? Perhaps you’ve told everyone who cares to listen to your story that you can never forgive those who hurt you.
Esau and Jacob also come to mind when talking about forgiveness. Jacob cunningly stole his brother’s birthright, and also deceived their father to receive the blessing originally meant for Esau. After this, he ran away because his brother was out to kill him. Esau was genuinely hurt and rightfully so.
In Genesis 33, the Bible records how Jacob returned to ask for Esau’s forgiveness. God must have worked on both of their hearts over the period such that Jacob who deceived his brother now desired reconciliation. Esau, on the other hand, who sought to kill his brother, no longer nursed this idea. Genesis 33:4 states what happened when they met. “But Esau ran to meet him, and embraced him, and fell on his neck and kissed him, and they wept.”
Jacob couldn’t believe his brother had forgiven him. He kept trying to tread carefully around him, but it was real. Esau was no longer after his life. My family read this in our bible study some weeks ago, and my husband shared how this aspect of Esau’s life is not often highlighted in sermons, and he was right. The more popular narrative is how he sold his birthright for a plate of porridge. But Esau also forgave his brother and so can you.
By the help of the Holy Spirit, you can let go of that betrayal, hurt, pain that someone else caused you. It’s not for them, but for you. From Matthew 6, we understand that it’s the only way to receive God’s forgiveness towards us.
Dear Jesus, I am sorry that I held on to this pain for so long. I was deeply hurt, but I know that the Holy Spirit can help me forgive. I choose to cast this burden of unforgiveness at your feet. Please help me to let go of it completely. I surrender all to you today, let my life be a testament of your grace. Thank you, Jesus that the sin of unforgiveness no longer has me bound. I rededicate [or give ] my life to you today. I confess you as my Lord and Saviour. Amen!
Congratulations, you are free from unforgiveness! And you have received the life of Christ in you. If you said this prayer, and would like additional information/ guidance, please send an email to 1nebodyblog@gmail.com.
God’s blessings always,
Dammy
